Wood Chip Recycling

Wood Recycling

The Environment is upper most in people’s minds. At Janbor limited, we have been recycling wood since the turn of the century.

Janbors wood recycling service is one of the most complete environmental processes around.

Our process from pallet refurbishment to wood recycling are truly environmentally friendly. Our pallet repair workshop has solar panels on the roof, providing us with electricity for the workshop & the offices. The pallets are moved by electric forklifts. All pallet repairs are made from reclaimed blocks & pallets, from our collection service. Any waste wood from refurbishing the pallets, is sent for woodchip processing.

Janbors wood recycling produces a number of products. Woodchip for biomass boilers, animal bedding & garden mulches. In the making of these products nothing goes to waste. In the process of making woodchip the screened chip produces fines. Most of which go for animal bedding. Some however are used to provide fuel for the sites own biomass boiler. This provides heat for the buildings & hot air is extracted to dry the tree woodchip.

All products are put through a chipping & screening process. More environmentally friendly methods are applied. The telescopic loader that feeds the machine is electric & the company has recently invested in an electric woodchipper. Saving thousands of litres of fossil fuels.

All metals (nails, screws etc) are removed by magnets. These are then sent to a metal recyclers for processing.

So safe to say, nothing gets wasted at Janbor. A true environmentally friendly service.

Pallet Waste & wood Waste Processing

Any pallets that are beyond repair are sent for chipping. The wood is chipped for use in biomass boilers. The biomass boilers are in places like Schools, Hospitals, Hotels, Plants nurseries & Farms.

Waste wood is put through a two-stage chipping process. The first chipper slowly crunches the wood into pieces varying in size up to 50 centimetres in length. The chip is then feed in to a second chipping machine. This machine runs a high speed hammered flail. it smashes the chip into tiny pieces.

The chip is then put through a deck screener. The Screener divides the chip into our chip for biomass, fines for animal bedding & our own biomass boiler. The oversized chip, is then put back through the system, until it meets the required size.

Our other form of biomass chip comes from arborist (trees) chip. This comes into site via tree surgeons, local authorities & landscape gardeners.

The chip is purchased from the suppliers. The price paid for the chip depends on the quality of the chip, how much brash is in the chip & the amount of moisture.

The chip is then put in our drying facility. Heat is extracted from our biomass boiler, via two giant fans. The hot air is blown through vents in the floors, blowing hot air through the chip. The chip is monitored until the moisture reaches a level of 20 – 25 % moisture. The dried arb chip is then screened the same way as the pallet chip.

The two grades of biomass chip can be ordered separately or can be mixed.

Our chip meets the standards of the Woodsure quality scheme. An independent scheme that checks the quality of wood, such as our chip.

Our woodchip is BSL Authorised – BSL Numbers 0090600 – 0002   0090600 – 0006 – Woodsure assured quality. We are audited annually, to achieve our Woodsure quality certificate.

If you are interested in purchasing our chip for a biomass boiler, chip for using as a garden mulch or woodchip fines for animal bedding. Please call or email us.
